Using ADHD positives to overcome any difficulties

Strategy structure of the PAA programme

The Positive ADHD Attitude approach uses years of research and theory development to identify behaviours that negatively affect people with ADHD. It uses developmental, behavioral and systems/people interaction theory to replace these with positive forward moving alternatives. It uses clear routines, behavioral boundaries, effective communication, modeling of mutual respect, self-regulation strategies etc. to improve the control of ADHD behaviours, boost self-esteem and calm the family/living environment and/or ODD. This can be done through parenting changes or through motivating the young person directly. It is about motivating people to choose positive behavioral options by understanding and accepting ADHD behaviours and thinking differences.

The formal program material is delivered over 4 to 8 weeks in hourly (±) weekly or fortnightly sessions and is originally based on the New Forest Parenting Programme based on the south coast of England. The strategies are ordered within the PAA program to address certain ADHD relevant processes over the whole contact period. This is done at your pace so we can concentrate on areas that are problematic and mention more briefly those you feel are under your control. These targets for change are shown in the diagram above/opposite.

The same strategies can be used to reach any personal goal, either through Life-Coaching or for academic work as a mentoring process.
